PAUL KAPLAN While studying marine biology in college Paul took a part time job selling yachts. He soon realized that it would be more enjoyable making a living around boats and one thing led to another. A native of the Bay Area, Paul has and won numerous regattas and championships on the Bay in a variety of boats. From single-handed sailing to winning the Double Handed Farallone Race aboard the 67’ ULDB "Merlin", he’s raced aboard Maxi’s and everything in between. His family has cruised extensively in the Northwest and Caribbean. His wife Chrissy figures over the years they’ve owned 37 boats! Paul became the youngest licensed yacht broker in California and started City Yachts, which is now owned and operated by Chrissy and her business partner. His expertise is in the sales of new and previously owned yachts and together with his reputation for serving clients honestly and fairly has provided an extensive clientele, many of whom have purchased from Paul on numerous occasions. Paul is proud to have been awarded the exclusive appointment to represent the world-renowned yacht manufacturer, Nautor of Finland. Paul and his wife Chris enjoy sailing their 55’ schooner "Santana" as often as possible. They live in Marin County, but are most commonly found somewhere on the docks of the bay. |
KEN KEEFE A Bay Area native, Ken Keefe grew up in and around boats. His father was the President of the Barient Winch Company and a past Commodore of the St. Francis Yacht Club. With over 25 years of experience in the marine industry, Ken Keefe, played a key role in developing Anderson’s Boat Yard, in Sausalito, California. Starting in 1975 as a yard employee through 1994, Ken ultimately became responsible for supervising every aspect of running the yard. Ken has also had the unique experience of managing two separate, multi-million dollar, America’s Cup campaigns. His first campaign in 1982 was aboard "DEFENDER" and then, in 1987, he was asked by Tom Blackhaller, to manage his revolutionary twin rudder, "USA" program in Australia. This program attracted international attention as "USA" was just narrowly beaten by Dennis Conner, who ultimately won the Cup and brought it back to the United States. In 1994 Ken joined Paul & Chrissy Kaplan at City Yachts. Over the coming years Ken became one of the most prolific sales agents on the West Coast selling both sail and motor yachts. The overall result of this broad depth of experience has allowed Ken to achieve an international reputation as being "the guy to talk to" on the West Coast when it comes to anything nautical. In addition, insurance companies, marine surveyors, and many others within the trade frequently consult with Ken as well as refer clients to him. |
